Don't Play with Fire
1/12/2022 (Permalink)
As Winter settles in and temperatures begin to plummet, homeowners look for alternative ways to warm their homes. In an effort to control heating costs, many residents utilize fireplaces, wood burning stoves, and portable heaters. Used properly and under supervision, each will be a cost efficient tool to heat the home. However, improper use of portable heating is the leading cause of house fires during the winter months.
Below are a few home heating safety tips:
- Inspect and Clean your chimney and pipes annually
- Do not plug electric heaters into extensions cords or power strips
- Always unplug electric heaters when not in use
- Never run heater cords under rugs or carpeting
