Time is of the Essence

Did you know that you have as less than two minutes to a escape a burning home before it may be too late to get out? It only takes a few minutes for a small flame to become a major fire. Time is of the essence in these situations, so you need to be prepared. According to the American Red Cross only 26% of families and businesses have created and practiced a fire escape plan. In addition to creating and practicing the escape plan, fire detectors are key to survival.
Below are some suggestions when creating your emergency escape plan:
- Draw a Map - included all levels of the building. Label all windows and doors. Plan at least 2 ways out of each room.
- Consider escape ladders - purchase collapsible ladders to store by windows in bedrooms on the second and thirds floors
- Teach your Children - teach your children how to escape on their own.
- Practice, Practice, Practice - practice the plan during different times, day and night.
When every second counts, its important to plan ahead.
